Along with growing awareness of the community-building importance of humane and civilized public spaces comes a parallel interest in site furnishings that help build a sense of civitas. As a result, manufacturers are coming out with more lines of benches and coordinated site furnishings that reflect the styling of the late Victorian and early 20th-century periods, which most people associate with "kinder, gentler times."
Linked here is a useful list of companies that supply historically styled benches in a wide range of materials. Most will have steel or cast-iron frames and slats made of wood or recycled plastic. But you'll also find sources for benches in concrete, cast stone, carved stone and a variety of other materials. While most are newly made historic replicas, a few of the sources listed will also supply antique benches.
